Food and Nutrition Information Center (FNIC)
At FNIC I had the chance to work with the SNAP -Ed Connection team. While there I helped update and add to the web site. The SNAP-Ed Connection mission is to be a dynamic online resource center for State and local SNAP-Ed providers. Below are some of the projects that I worked on at FNIC: |
- Resource Reviews - The Resource Finder is a place that state and local educators can find additional curriculum, lesson plans and educational materials. My job was to review each item for accuracy, scope, bias and readability. After reviewing each item, I was able to enter the information into the SNAP-Ed database to be posted on the web site.

- Recipe Database - Recipes are submitted by health professionals and then reviewed by the staff at SNAP-Ed. The Recipe Finder database is available to the public as well as Nutrition Educators. Educators are encouraged to use these recipes to support their nutrition education messages. My primary task was to:
- Review 25 submitted recipes for nutrition content by using Food Processor nutrient analysis program.
- Once approved, I then entered the recipes into the Recipe database to be posted on the web site.
- Reference - For one week I had the opportunity to respond to reference questions submitted to the NAL web site. These eight questions ranged from a wide variety of nutritional concerns. One example:
- Hot Topics A-Z - Information on a range of nutrition topics made available for nutrition educators. I had the chance to research and evaluate credible resources related to all things sugar.
- Final FNIC Presentation - At the conclusion of the FNIC rotation my partner and I gave a presentation to review all of the different projects that we had worked on as well as highlighting some of the things we had learned. Developing the presentation with SlideRocket was a wonderful learning experience. To view the presentation:
