I had the great opportunity to work with two extremely knowledgeable renal dietitians at Bon Secour Hospital in Baltimore. I had the chance to experience and learn about:
  • Chronic Kidney Disease and the dietary measures necessary to improve quality of life.
  • How dialysis is performed, including the equipment, staffing and time issues that help for a successful treatment.
  • Fluid retention and fluid restriction.
  • Compliance issues that plague successful treatment.

DaVita Dietitian Connection Meeting

During this week long rotation, I was also thankful to attend the biannual DaVita Dialysis Dietitian Connection Meeting. I learned a great deal about DaVita Dialysis and the current "hot topics" that their dietitians are concerned about.

A few of the topics included:

  • Helping patients stretch their food dollar.
  • Catheters and Albumin.
  • Phosphorus Perspective - Hidden Sources and Ways to Manage.
